We need to do something about class sizes. They are definitely going up and it's hurting the kids. At my kids' elementary school, when my older child started there were about 22 kids per class. My younger child has 27 kids in her class. The kids who need tons of attention are getting it, but the ones who are "easy" are just coasting. It's not the teachers' faults, the rooms are simply overcrowded!

Look at how much they're spending in these towns:

Lakewood High : $23,362
Asbury Park High:$29,095

Wow, with this much money being throw at the kids they must be full of kids going to Harvard!
Either that or they are spending millions building new turf stadiums with all these tax dollars (like they did in Asury)

The main reason we trail the state in per student cost is that our property taxes go to the slacker communities to pay for their non-preforming children! It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out, the Dems in Trenton have been bleeding us for 30+ years to buy votes in the slacker communities!

I downloaded the data from the State's website which gives us all the numbers in a nice handy Excel spreadsheet (http://education.state.nj.us/rc/rc11/database.htm). If you calculate the state average excluding the 31 Abbott districts, the state average drops to $16,547. The puts Brick only $1800 below the state non-Abbott average which seems like good fiscal responsibility to me. Its amazing that 31 districts drives up the state average by that much.

something seems really off balance that our HIGHER THEN AVERAGE, while the cost for our our childrens needs that our taxes are going up for is LOWER then avarage... seems like a lot of money either way for the unsafe & poor condtiton Brick HS is in & that we as parents ( making on avg. In brick making btwn 50,000 to 53,000) a yr when our super & other Admds. are making triple that & WE are ask to supply Paper protects, ( even soap) WHY if your income is that much higher them the gerneral public you all pitch in & spend about 5,000 ( TAX WRITE OFF) & you'll have enough Paper protects lysol wipes etc.. to last the yeat I bet in all the schools in Brick...

They seem to have forgotten to show you what the supr is making I believe it 175,000 ( I could be wrong but believe its within that range)

The $175K is factored into the average pupil cost. I suspect a lot to do with the reason we spend a less per student than the state average is because Brick is the 17th biggest district in the state. If you look at the top 10 biggest non-Abbott distrcts, their average cost per student is

This whole comments section is a treasure trove of misinformation in every direction. I wish people took the time to figure out where the money actually goes instead of immediately assuming that because they want to raise taxes it MUST be voted against.

Its not JUST the seniors fault. They are vastly outnumbered. Turnout (except for seniors) is awful. The physical condition of the schools and class sizes are embarrassing. And when the roof falls in on one of the schools voters will ask. "How could this happen?"

JD I vote every year.... however I do find it harder & harder every year, to defend why I DO vote ... My taxes go up every year & services for the kids get cut, & the schools are in worse condition then ever... & Adms, Supers pay get high & more demand on the teachers that are with our kids sometimes longer then we are ( & they also have been getting cuts & have to BEG of minl. raises) I think MORE People would vote if they had a say in where & how the funds where being spent, YES windmills are great, but lets get the HSat least out of substandard condition before thinking windmills. Should be needs over wants, NOT the other way around.

Good Point, But let be honest ,education is what YOU ( as the student) put into it. Though Brick is a lower to average income community the kids seem to very very spoiled & have a entitlement outlook on life.... Yes of course we do not want to live that way, But there are many school in other counties that are HUTS, Never mind not having AC its 90-100Degress every day, the classrooms are packed becaues the children want to learn & realize how importent a Education is & take every bit of information that they can.... Some inner City people that I know, that grew up in really tough areas with every disadvantage possible, seem to be some of the smartest people I know & can handle any situcation that comes there way " make the best of what ya got" & stop crying wining & raising a bunch of intitled wimpy kids...
