Parts Of Jenkinson's Will Reopen Friday

The beachfront tourist attraction's aquarium and gift shop will be open; arcades will reopen Saturday

Parts of Jenkinson's Boardwalk will reopen Friday as the Point Pleasant Beach tourist attraction continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy.

The aquarium, as well as the aquarium gift shop and sweet shop will reopen Friday, while the pavilion's fast food will be available on weekends only beginning Saturday.

The Jenkinson's South arcade, the arcade at Jenkinson's Pavilion and Frank's Fun Center will also open Saturday, according to the business's website.

Jenkinson's and other boardwalk-based businesses have been workng on rebuildng and refurbishing the area while dealing with Point Beach's crumpled boardwalk.

Part of the boardwalk that was damaged by Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011 is under construction, with plans underway to repair other sections damaged by Sandy.

It is expected that the center, commercial section of the boardwalk will be finished by Easter weekend and the full length of the boardwalk will be intact by Memorial Day.

Jenkinson's has said its Easter weekend, featuring an egg hunt and 2-for-1 amusement ride tickets, are expected to take place.

Elected officials and the Chamber of Commerce have noted that the downtown has been open for months and that the town in general will be ready for summer tourism come Memorial Day weekend.

The first thing my grand children asked after the storm was "Are the rides and Frank's Arcade OK?" Glad to see "Restore the Shore" is working. Now let's get down there and support these businesses.

I hope nobody cries about where I park this summer. Maybe the residents of Arnold Ave north to the inlet will see the big picture and be a little more welcoming of patrons of PPB boardwalk. I miss going to the boards and spending my money there.

How about getting the local homes & businesses back up & running? Stop catering to the Bennie's
We are going to have lots of restaurants & entertainment with less local population year round...
