Ocean County Prosecutor to be Nominated as Superior Court Judge

Marlene Lynch Ford on track to again serve as a Superior Court judge

It appears Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford is poised to return to her former job as a Superior Court judge.

Gov. Christie on Monday filed a notice of intent to nominate Ford to again serve on the bench, said Ford on Tuesday afternoon. (That is also confirmed on the state legislature's website.)

"I don't know yet where I will be assigned, that's up to the chief justice," said Ford, who lives in Toms River. "It depends where the need is."

The governor is required by the state Constitution to file a notice of intent seven days before nominating candidates to serve as Superior Court judges, Ford explained.

Ford's five-year appointment as county prosecutor expired on June 26, 2012, but she said last year that she would be legally required to continue in her role until a successor is appointed. She had been appointed by Gov. Corzine in June 2007.

In June 2012, Joseph D. Coronato was nominated by Christie to become the new county prosecutor, pending state senate approval. The senate has not yet voted to confirm Coronato, according to a staff member in Coronato's law office, Coronato, Brady and Kunz, 12 Madison Ave., Toms River.

Coronato, a longtime Toms River resident and attorney, was not immediately available for comment.

When Coronato's nomination was made last June, Ford said at the time that she hoped to serve in another public capacity, but that nothing had been offered to her at that time.

Ford, a former state Assembly member, was nominated in 1992 by Gov. Florio to be a Superior Court judge, according to her bio. (To see past story with Ford's attached bio, click here.)

Ford served in the family division for four years and for ten years in the civil division. In 2006, she was appointed by Chief Justice Zazzali to be Presiding Judge of the Family Division.

She was not an effective prosecutor.

Politics as usual, one appointment to the next.

I don't know what angel touched you, or where you were touched, but you need to take your blinders off. Prosecutor Ford is part of the machine that abuses those who innocently get in their way. I can give you examples if need be. How does one go from being a judge, to not being a judge, to being a judge again? That doesn't sound fishy to you? Let's get real.

After today's speech and this is it possible our Governor is going to change parties after his re-election? All things are pointing that way. It would be honorable for him to tell us the truth and let us use the knowledge to make well informed votes.

Christie won't carry the Shore like last time -- unless he opposes FEMA's destruction of our region with its over-kill home elevation mandates (based on erroneous flood zone maps) and insurance gouging that will cause mass abandonment and foreclosures. Christrie also has to use eminent domain to allow dune building that will protect tens of thousands of homes, despite the elite who think their precious views are more important than the lives of "the little people."

Maybe our do nothing Senate President Steve Sweeney will give Joe Coronato a hearing sometime this decade. It's a disgrace what Sweeney's doing to so many well qualified nominees throughout this state.

Christie gave all his powers over Fema to them and he just had to know that was one of the least effective federal agencies out there and that they didn't have a dime to spend on the PEOPLE of NJ. Not one of the other governors involved bailed out of their responsibilities the way Christie did.

I'm thinking of a write in vote for Snooki who actually did something to help us out. She couldn't do worse than what is going on to the middle class who are being evicted one way or another from the western side of Barnegat Bay. But apparently the Governor has calculated everything to the enth degree and no longer feels he needs votes from the shore area.

He may be right but when he aims for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, those of us who will move out and over the borders of this State to lower tax areas will never forget who did what to whom and we certainly will spread all over the nation to tell the tale of our displacement brought on by a Governor who was interested only in himself during a time of crisis. Just imagine him in the White House: It would still all be George Bush's fault somehow.

I don't know if Coronato is a Ritacco hack but Szymanski is certainly a Gilmore lackey.

Why Kayac, do you think the Gov. reads the Tomsriverpatch?

Yes, the Governor (and/or staff) reads the Patch. And there is no such thing as a Republican in Ocean County that is not a Gilmore lackey. It's not just nationally that the Republican Party has nothing positive to offer the people.

The woman is a solid public servant. Truly refreshing in today's political climate. The anti-thesis of people like George Gilmore.

A comment like this - sexist and ugly - says far more about you than it does about the subject.
