Ratepayers of the Brick Towship Municipal Utilities Authority will not see their water and sewer rates rise for 2013, Commissioner Jim Fozman said.
Fozman, who also serves on the township council, said he and fellow commissioner George Cevasco worked with Chief Financial Officer Frank Planko to find savings at the regional water and sewer authority.
As a result, rates will not rise this year, he said.
"We managed to come up with a zero percent rate increase," said Fozman. "That was really big. It's the first time in years we've had no increase."
Fozman said the bulk of the savings was generated by reducing the utility's five year plan budget by $2 million and using funds dedicated to specific projects or sites – such as the reservoir on Sally Ike Road – for those projects or sites only, rather than dipping into the general fund for routine spending.
"We sat down with the department heads and went over it line by line," said Fozman. "We went through it thoroughly and found every cost cutting measure we could find."
"That is a big accomplishment," said Councilman John Ducey at Tuesday night's township council meeting. "We haven't had a zero in how many years, if ever, and to see that go through, it is very very exciting."

And whatever you may have saved the taxpayers, goes right to paying the part time liars on the council health benefits.

Maybe no rate increase for the BTMUA but wait till we all see the triple increase in our taxes. Somebodies gotta pay for all that beach replenishment. And Traders Coves improvements. Also Brick Beach 1,2 and 3. And the list goes on and on.

Hey. It's a start .Give him credit. The M.U.A. has been 4% ing us to death every year. You didn't use enough water, you used to much water, the sewer rates went up etc.Does this mean they won't have enough to give the township $1,ooo,ooo this year? Jim, Mr.A.C. is not going to like you!

They didn't give us $1,000,000 last year either. It was requested when the Twp was moving towards a referendum in 2011. We don't have this revenue in this year's budget either.

The only thing Vera's husband had nothing to do with this deal. Not sure why he would take the credit for something that was in the works long before he decided it would a good idea to make himself a councilman and a BTMUA commissioner......
