The network of natural gas lines that run through Brick Township's barrier island sections require "substantial infrastructure repair and replacement," New Jersey Natural Gas said in a statement.

The company said late Monday that it had completed an assessment of its 116 mile-long main from Bay Head to Seaside Park as well as assessments of 16,903 homes in the area. The company said "extensive damage" will necessitate the infrastructure repairs and replacements.

"We are finalizing our re-pressurization plan for this portion of our system, which includes segmentation," said Amellio Renee, a company spokesperson. "Mobilization has begun for the replacement of main that was damaged near the Mantoloking Bridge."

"Access remains an issue, and conditions on the ground change daily."

The natural gas infrastructure on Ocean County's northern barrier island contrasted that of Long Beach Island, where gas service was restored to multiple municipalities Monday.

In Ocean County's mainland neighborhoods, 27,600 service assessments have been completed, with more than 1,800 meters ready for service restoration. Of those 1,800, 604 have been turned back on.
