Next Phase of Traders Cove Improvements on the Way
Park features to be added under next construction phase
The next phase of construction at the Traders Cove Marina site will begin soon.
The Brick Township council at its June 21 meeting authorized the search for bids for the second phase of the project, which covers the installation of a boardwalk, parking lot and other park features, said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis.
The funding for the project has already been included in the 2009 and 2010 capital budgets. The cost of the construction will be known after the bids come through to the township.
The former derelict marina at the foot of the Mantoloking Bridge is being turned into a bayfront park by township officials. The first phase of development at the site is now complete. That phase included the delivery of soil to the site, and the grading needed to eventually turn the entire area into the intended park. Additionally, new bulkheading was installed in various areas at the site.
The township purchased the Traders Cove site in 2005 with help from county and state funding sources. Since then, the site has remained a working marina with the township overseeing its daily operations.
