Next Phase of Traders Cove Improvements on the Way

Park features to be added under next construction phase

The next phase of construction at the Traders Cove Marina site will begin soon.

The Brick Township council at its June 21 meeting authorized the search for bids for the second phase of the project, which covers the installation of a boardwalk, parking lot and other park features, said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis.

The funding for the project has already been included in the 2009 and 2010 capital budgets. The cost of the construction will be known after the bids come through to the township.

The former derelict marina at the foot of the Mantoloking Bridge is being turned into a bayfront park by township officials. The first phase of development at the site is now complete. That phase included the delivery of soil to the site, and the grading needed to eventually turn the entire area into the intended park. Additionally, new bulkheading was installed in various areas at the site.

The township purchased the Traders Cove site in 2005 with help from county and state funding sources. Since then, the site has remained a working marina with the township overseeing its daily operations.

The town is so broke we needed a 24% tax increase, yet the council just continues to spend and spend like there is no tomorrow. Well there is a tomorrow and if the mayor and council keep up their reckless spending, that tomorrow will be spent in bankruptcy court!

Don't worry George. That is why our taxes went up so much in one single swoop. These things are obviously more important than the other issues and problems that we have in Brick. Our fearless leaders know what's best, don't they?

What a JOKE!

I believe this town is in need of a facelift. If you hear the comments from people who visit the area and pass over the bridge, you will actually hear positive comments. Or then again we could have everyone drive down Mantoloking Road and gaze at the wooden fences.

Why would you want a facelift when your organs are failing? Our roads, schools and drastic crime issues should be addressed before plastic surgery or botox injections.

Nice upscale condos would have been nicer. Especially since they would include more tax revenue.

What is sad, it has come to light that vinyl bulkheading aids in the development of sea nettles... the stinging jellyfish. The township should have requested wood. In the future I think you will find that everyone will have to replace their bulkheads with wood or vinyl which has a shark skin type of finish where the larva/pupa (sp) or how ever you say it, can't develope. – We are only encouraging the growth of these monsters.

Picture above is vinyl... Mistake, mistake, mistake.

Hold onto the past - what good is the future anyway? ô¿ô
I'd like to say that Traders Cove is going to be one of the things that puts Brick on the MAP! Thanks All
