MTV's 'Jersey Shore' Is Ending for Good

The final season will begin airing in October.

Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous—or, at least, infamous—is going off the air.

MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series Jersey Shore will end after a recently taped season airs this fall.

The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight twentysomethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premiere Oct. 4 at 10 p.m.

But when the season ends, the show and the cast will not return.

The network will air the retrospective Gym, Tan, Look Back as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night.

Lately, the production crews have been filming a spin-off show, Snooki and J-Woww, in Manchester.

The network has not offered a reason why the original series is ending.

In addition to the well-documented antics at local night spots such as Karma, Aztec and The Beachcomber Bar and Grill, three cast members wound up in handcuffs over the last several summers the show has taped in Ocean County.

Cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was accepted into the state's pretrial intervention program after being charged with aggravated assault, and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Deena Cortese both were arrested and paid fines relating to borough ordinance violations in Seaside for nuisance behavior.

Well, That is no loss. It is difficult to explain repeatedly when out of the area that people at the Jersey shore do not act or sound like the group on Jersey Shore because they are NOT from Jersey and NOT from the shore. They are the "Bennies" who come to the shore and make our summers miserable!

And not a moment too soon! Really! Is this the behavioral model we wish to set for New Jersey? It's appalling just how much we've apparently let our standards deteriorate if this is what we've come to expect from our young people here in NJ and everywhere, for that matter. It's astonishing how much we are willing to tolerate under the guise of "entertainment".

And I suppose that you also believe that HBO's "The Sopranos" gave the whole world the impression that everyone from New Jersey owns a dumpster company and is a mobster? Quit blaming a simple TV show for turning some people into the idiots that some of them just simply are!

Yes Gino, The "reality' show Jersey Shore does indeed give the impression to people from other states that this is how New Jersey citizens act in reality, while the "fictional" show The Sopranos is taken as fiction.

4 yrs. too late. Just a bad example to set for the youth of today. When I lived in Seaside Hts. 2 yrs. after I graduated High School, 1969, we spent our days swimming in the ocean and our nights walking the boardwalk trying to win prizes. The only time we saw the Police was when they told us to turn the music down!!

I remember all of that too. My whole family spent summers on the beach in Seaside Heights and every night on the boardwalk. You went on rides and won prizes. You stood outside of the Chatterbox to listen to the music. There were no fights, no drunks. It was family fun, but that was a long time ago.

So many "ADULTS" of today including leaders set bad examples for the young. Starting with the parents, educators, priests, police etc....the list goes on. They teach them it is ok to be dishonest, to cheat, lie. I am glad the show it ending, it did nothing for Seaside, People talk about how bad Seaside became. Seaside was nice at one time, even though some have doubt. Remember, People is what makes a town or a country bad.

No great loss at all. It was trashy, out of control and done by people who were not from Jersey. It was a self centered bunch of people who only showed teens and young adults how to drink, get arrested and have sex. I can't believe that there is a spin off program and Manchester would allow them to film there or any city in Jersey would sell themselves to that kind of trash to make money. Good riddens!

Over the years, I think many of us knew, as with all things in television, that “This too shall pass,” and it finally seemingly has. But also, as with all things in television, the infamous memory of that show will most likely linger on for years -- TV shows have a way of etching into our culture decades beyond their demise. Although nothing can match the power of television via its vast reach and the instantaneous fame it breeds, it wasn’t that long ago when our beloved Jersey Shore formerly enjoyed being famous for its truly homegrown musical artists and its unique and fertile music scene. The “Jersey Shore Sound” was renowned Worldwide and made famous by notables such as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Southside Johnny, and I believe we can safely throw Jon Bon Jovi into that mix as well since the Jersey Shore clubs were a big part of his early days. Perhaps the slow motion progression in rebuilding Asbury Park will eventually re-spark a “Live Original Band” club scene, or perhaps a Seaside Heights club owner, or two, will try to differentiate from the redundant Techno-DJ-Electronic blasting and foster a live original music scene . . . one can only hope. Something’s got to give soon enough to bring homespun virtuous fame back to us – that is before the world is ripe for Jersey Shore re-runs.

Footnote: Unfortunately, MrCommonSense is absolutely correct and really goes back many, many years. I was an active musician in the 80's and spent the better part of five-years in SS Heights. Remember the old joke: What does IROC stand for???? It was true back then too! That element was alive and well, but thrived in mainly two clubs, Temptations and Club Hollywood -- there was spill over at the Chatterbox and Baby-O's, crusing the BLVD. in IROC Camaros and on the boards. But, by far, this show (or that show) turbo-charged the breed 25-years later.

Cynthia, you talk like NJ politicians were classy and worthy of admiration in the pre-Christie days. Right. Because Christie has ruined the great reputation that NJ politicians worked so hard to achieve under such iconic leaders as Whitman, Florio, McGreevey, and Corzine. I travel a lot and unfortunately people across the country inevitably mention two things about NJ - the Jersey Shore and crooked politicians.

Young people have been coming down to the shore and staying in group rentals since forever and will continue to do so. The problem with this bunch is that they had cameras to perform in front of which made them act really stupid in order to get famous. If you who watch this "show" want to see more, simply stay outside any shore bar at closing time on Friday or Saturday nights during the summer. Not only will you see a show, you may even interact with the "characters". Hey, you might even get "lucky"! That may be a bad idea though.

Only 2 of them are from Northern NJ, the rest are from NY. Seaside has always had problems, due to the fact of the many bars and scummy landlords. I used to go down and stay at the Aloha Motel on Hamilton 35 years ago and it was nice. It was then turned over to some people who ran it into the ground...

True, only 2 are from North Jersey. None are from down here. The rest NY, Rhode Island. Also, I found it interesting that most are not Italian-American, but portrayed themselves as so. I mean, Jaywow Farley is about as Irish as it gets and so on. . Oh well, it was a scriped show that portrayed what sometimes goes on with our younger adults when they party I guess.

DevilsFan609

Anyone blaming Seaside being a slum on the show is extremely naive. Seaside is a disgusting town. The same rooms that tourists are paying $300 a night for are section 8 rooms as soon as the summer is over. That being said, the show has literally made Seaside a destination and has pumped millions of dollars into the town. It's incredible how people don't realize that and say the show and its cast is stupid. They're all getting rich by going out and doing something most of us all do/did when we were younger which is party and have fun. I'm not saying I would want my future children to be like them but it could be worse.

ANYONE READING THE LETTERS IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS WHEN THERE IS A CONTROVERSY IN OCEAN CITY (BIKE PATH IN THE WETLANDS - BYOB) SHOULD KNOW THAT THE SHOW "JERSEY SHORE" IS NOT THE ONLY THING THAT GIVES THE SHORE A BAD NAME. SOME OF THE LOCALS IN THIS TOWN ARE AS NASTY AND MEAN SPIRITED AS THEY COME AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR CRAZY LETTERS IN THE PAPERS - CALLING PEOPLE LIARS, DISPARAGING 2ND HOMEOWNERS, MAKING UP CONSPIRACY THEORIES. I FIND THE JERSEY SHORE GROUP PRETTY TACKY BUT SOME OF THE LOCALS IN OCEAN CITY WHO LIKE TO GRAB ATTENTION (COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE OC) TO THE DETRIMENT OF OTHERS - NAME CALL AND DISPARAGE PENNSYLVANIANS ARE MUCH MORE HARMFUL IN THE LONG RUN.

Reality shows are not REALITY! Each character is given a generic outline of what his/her character should portray. The more outlandish the better. Imagine a TV show where people are lying quietly relaxing on the beach sipping bottled water! Ooooh can't you see the advertisers lining up to promote that! I guess a TV camera allows people to ACT differently than their norm. Go figure?

I don’t think too many people will admit they will miss Jersey Shore. That said, I was surprised when my coworker at Dish said they were really going to miss the show. They loved watching the Situation and said he inspired them to get into shape. My coworker has a Hopper DVR with a 2 TB hard drive. He has been recording Jersey Shore every time it comes on so he can re-watch the show over and over. I guess with the 2000 hours of recording time available he’ll have plenty of room, but, using it for Jersey Shore? That I’m not sure about.
