This is not a handout it is a contract with the insurance company, backed and guaranteed by the US government. Ken, Frank was correct this bill was only for the flood insurance program. The bill to be voted on in the future is loaded with pork. I don't know if the democrats will be opposed to removing the pork.

Republican Congressman Boehner quickly gave approval for the $87 Billion that President Bush requested to rebuild Iraq in just 2 weeks after Bush asked for the money he got Boehner's approval.. Congressman Boehner even more quickly approved Bush's request for $130 Billion of aid after Hurricane Katrina in just 1 week. Maryland, Delaware, NJ, NY and CT are waiting over 2 months now for Boehner's approval. Boehner gave Iraq more money and approved it in under 2 weeks. Boehner cares more about his Muslim pals in Iraq who he voted to give MORE money to very fast. $87 Billion for Iraq and it is smaller in size than NYS alone and Iraq only has 23 million people living there.

There is a rumor going around that the White House told Boehner to hold off on a vote for Sandy due to comments from some congressmen about a challenge to the amount to some areas. Do not interfer with the Presidents vacation, it can wait another 2 weeks.

The real problem is the Dem controlled Senate. Who saw a chance to bring home the bacon. They loaded it up with pork and with Rep help passed Sandy relief bill. NJ GovC should have told the Senators if they needed pork to pass the bill, could it be a 50/50 split. 1/2 pork 1/2 relief. I like that Gov C calls as he sees it, but in this case put the blame where it belongs. The Senate.

The R's votes speak volumes about why change is so difficult in our political structure. Do you think for a minute that rep LoBiondo would keep Boehner if he was an employee of his family's business? Never! I have investigated the "pork" many people are talking about. Is it really pork? Do you know what real pork barrel politics is? Take a road trip down south or through the midwest and west to see the result of mindless pork barrel legislation at its best. Here in NJ at the height of the war in Iraq, Guard and Reserve soldiers were forced to endure conditions at deployment platforms resembling places like eastern state pen. Is this really a surprise in politics? The GOP has been trying to get the Stolen Valor act made a law for some time, yet they supported Stolen Valor Stafford Mayor John Spodofora.
This charlatan flat out lied using Congressman Runyan's name stating he had to get "special access" as it was written in the Asbury Park Press. What did Runyan do despite calls and written concerns? Nothing... it was election time and both are Republicans.

Boehner was in a thankless position with that bill and he absolutely wound up doing the right thing----defeating it until all the crap projects tacked onto the bill that had nothing to do with the hurricane be stripped out before the vote. The pressure by jerk, Christie, and the other opportunist politicians from the Northeast to pass it without taking any action on the earmarks shows what kind of ethics these people operate under. Now that it's been defeated, let's handle it in a rational manner and only include dollars specifically designated for victims of the storm who happened to have flood insurance, to the municipalities to rebuild their infrastructures and boardwalks and that's it. Nothing for Alaskan fisheries or other "bridges to nowhere." All the criticism should have been directed by all the complainmers against all those who tried to take advantage of their plight by tacking on these $600 million of outrageous earmarks. Put the blame where it belongs. $600 million is not chump change despite the trillions of $ we are burdened with by Pelosi & Co.
