Heavy Rains Making a Mess of the end of the Weekend

Several roads flooded while traffic builds on local and major roadways

The weather forecast for the Jersey Shore region has been anything but pleasant today, which has made for a messy time on both the local and statewide roadways.

According to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority there are delays and floods reported on the roads making for a difficult trip for those travelers going away from and through our area.

Flooding has been reported on Route 35 south near Route 37 in Seaside Heights which has closed all the lanes on the roadway. There is also flooding being reported on Route 35 north near Route 51 in Toms River closing the right lane and more flooding on Route 37 westbound near the Mathis Bridge closing one of the two lanes.

Additional flooding has been reported on Route 35 in both directions near Twin Brooks Ave. in Middletown closing all lanes and additional flooding on Route 36 north near Leonard Ave. closing the right lane in Middletown as well.

On the Garden State Parkway there are delays reported near Exit 74 on the northbound side stretching all the way to Exit 88. That 14 mile delay figures to make headaches for people driving on this dreary day. Further north, there are delays reported on the Parkway near Exit 98 on the northbound side. That stretches from Route 138 in Wall all the way to the Monmouth Service Area making for a two mile backup.

There are other problems on the Turnpike including volume near Exit 7 making for an 11 mile backup heading north to Exit 8.

With it still being early on Sunday night there is still time for traffic to ease, but with no end in sight to the rain, the roadways likely are only going to get worse before they get better.
