Driver Ticketed After Crashing Into Car Wash, Beer Store

Little damage to Herbertsville Road business, however

A township man received two summonses after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a Herbertsville Road business Monday afternoon.

Javier Leyvu-Ponce, 40, was charged with careless driving and being an unlicensed driver after he lost control of a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer SUV while navigating a curve in the road and crashed into Buchanan's, a car wash and drive-through beer store, said Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian.

Bedrosian said Leyvu-Ponce was travelling too fast for the conditions just after 5 p.m. Monday and, as he approached a curve in Herbertsville Road near 18th Avenue, lost control of the SUV. The vehicle first hit a curb, then a utility pole before making contact with the building, Bedrosian said.

No one was injured.

The crash caused minor damaged to Buchanan's landscaping and to a side wall of the building, but no structural damage. The business was open as usual on Tuesday.

JCP&L was notified by police about the damaged pole.

In other states people slow down when it storms, not in NJ people speed up as if they are going to beat the raindrops home. Auto insurance companies officially list NJ drivers as aggressive, unofficially as retarded.

Nowhere in the article is a statement made about the man's national origin. Making assumptions only serves to make you look dumb.

Every so often someone loses it on that turn. Ask Joey M! His excursion paid for Betty's new beer cooler back in '82.

I don't believe I've ever seen anyone slow down going around that bend in the road

I can remember years ago when Ocean County made improvements and lessened the bends on Herbertsville Road near Maple Avenue and up near the firehouse. They even moved the Osborn house as part of the latter project.
Maybe Buchanan's/Roselli's bend would be too costly to change, or is not considered as dangerous as the other bends? Maybe both reasons.
