The docks might need some work, but all in all, the road to the completion of the bayfront park at the former Traders Cove Marina site on Mantoloking road is nearing a pleasant end.

"Punchlist items" are still being waited on, but the construction of a parking area, a playground and several other aspects of the long-awaited park have been completed, Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said.

Completed is a future picnic area, barbecue are, gazebo, playground and floating docks.

Still in the planning stages is a resource building, which will include restrooms.

Restrooms were initially planned as part of a splash park that would have been included at the site, though that aspect of the project was eliminated after the township council changed hands in the beginning of 2012.

"We are looking at finalizing the plans for the resource center which will have the bathrooms in it, but that won't be bid until the end of the year," said Acropolis.

A recent tour of the park yielded a view of significant progress, including a parking lot made of sea shells, fences, sidewalks and a large playground.

Many of the site's docks were damaged during Superstorm Sandy, which will require repair.

The township council authorized the solicitation of bids for that work at the Feb. 5 council meeting. The cost of the repair work and the new docks will be covered under FEMA's 75 percent reimbursement rate, Acropolis said.

Officials are hoping floating docks on the north lagoon area will be installed by Memorial Day weekend.

"That will give us the opportunity to rent some boat slips there," the mayor said.

The county built a park that butts right up against this waste of tax payers dollars park. The county has a nice new bathroom at their waste of tax payer dollars park.

Ocean County and Brick must think the money grows on trees.

Make it real nice and add some more bathrooms because there will be a lot of homeless victims from Hurricane sandy living there.

Normally, if damage occurs before the owner makes final acceptance it's the contractor or his insurer's responsibility to repair or replace the damage portion of the work. Makes me wonder if anyone in town hall knows much about public contracting, or worse.

It sure seems that the majority of those that post on these articles are very negative. Do any of you have anything positive to say about anything?? It sure seems that you have a lot of time on your hands as well. Go out and enjoy where you live and stop whining.

Why no splash park? It would be nice to have one around here.

I'll say something positive, I'm glad they are making a park over there, most of the township council is hell bent on paving over the whole town. Glad some open space is being saved somewhere in town, would be nice to do with the Foodtown lot as well. As far as changing stations, who needs them? Our friends from the West turn everything into changing stations. Go to Windward Beach for awhile to prove that statement. They change their kids on park benches, picnic tables and their favorite spot are the picnic tables with the roofs over them, keeps the sun out of the kids eyes don't ya know. GROSS! You would think the powers that be would pass an ordinance forbidding those practices, but no, they are more concerned with Bamboo. So what if we get a little E Coli mixed in with our food or clothing? It puts hair on your chest!

I would never use a picnic table without first spraying the table off and then using a plastic tablecloth. Haven't been to Windward in years. Used to go there in the late 60"s but not to swim, just to sit. Use the ocean, Brick 1 since 1955 and still go there. Don't have to worry about nothing. (Bamboo,e coli, tables)

Thank God!!! The park is coming along! I thought the people with no homes would have no place to go after a hard day of living on the streets. Good job Brick, keep up the good work!
