not to be negative, but it seems like a LOT of money for a pretty side walk... & some lights. Is anything else going in there? snack stands? priv. town pool? weekend local vendors farm markets?? Its Just seems like a PRETTY, but empty space...

A lot of negative comments! I believe citizens are those who live in the county and visitors are those who visit the county! I've been driving by and boating by and it looks very inviting!

Really? not trying to be mean, But there areasre lots that are just over grown lots, stores empty, / or closing.... it just seems to me that the town could have used that money more wisely, ( exp the Brick High school IS STILL falling apart) & NOW we have a really nice walking path...

@D5557...have you set foot in the schools recently? Most people who think their money is going to fix up the schools are very out of touch with what our schools are actually like. I teach in brick and can assure you that your money is not being spent how you think it is.....as I buy my students supplies out of my own pocket, while they sit in a decrepit, rundown school building. But, hey, at least we have a pretty walkway to go fishing at now.

Holy geez, $1.4 million could have seriously helped Brick HS. Anglers and crabbers have a place to go while our children sit in shambles. I do not have children in the HS, but am aware of the deplorable conditions. The priorities of this administration continue to dumbfound.

Okay Guys, no I have not stepped foot in the highschool. I don't have children. I have plenty of family who are teachers (not in brick) as I'm told every teacher must by there own supplies. I remember going to my highschool which was three stories high fully air conditioned & also remember getting paper & pens if need. Now all the parents must supply pencils to glue a little outrageous for me. I really don't think the community of Lakewood will show up this is more water related activities. Most can't swim! Hahaha
I think its nice & a nice peaceful place to go w/nieces, nephews& god children. Don forget that was all sand, no lighting, no, buildings etc. Yes, it could have perhaps been less expensive. But really what control do we have over the twp. Just enjoy and don't worry about who will be there, who cares if you are enjoying yourself.

Which parks? I think we should also should show proof we are indeed brick residents in the off season!

For the record, everyone, this was a county project - it had nothing to do with the Brick mayor or council. County tax money cannot go toward repairs or improvements at local schools. For that matter, neither can municipal tax money. For the large-scale repairs at schools within the Brick district you guys are talking about, funding must come from the district's capital budget or via a referendum approved by a vote of the taxpayers (if the project is large enough).

I don't often give an opinion on these things, but I want to paint the big picture. First, the park is absolutely beautiful. It's now complete, and I think everyone would enjoy it. It is already having a positive effect on our business community, too, since people are shopping at the local bait shops and probably will stop by the Crab Shack or some of the local delis for snacks and sandwiches. Public access to Barnegat Bay is a precious thing, and in the long run, $1.4 million of the entire $354 million county budget is peanuts to preserve and improve something so unfortunately rare as bayfront access that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Years ago when Traders Cove was first purchased, it was supposed to be a combination of the Township, County and State all contributing to the cost. Brick's portion then was $700,000. Our Administration then wanted the State out of the purchase because of control issues. When the division of the property was finally approved, the County paid for their portion of the purchase and completed the Park as promised. Dan, maybe you could do a story on the history of Traders Cove going back to the beginning.

Traitors cove money pit. Mark my words, this will go down in history as a big waste of money and the town and taxpayers will be arguing over this waste of money forever.

As I walk the County Park into Traders Cove to the end, I thought it would be nice to have a path leading into the wooded section across from the lagoon. Any chance?

My husband and I took our children there today to crab and fish, what a great place. Its VERY hard to find place to crab and fish with the kids and have it kid friendly. There is a lot of room and there is bathrooms on the property. We mainly fish in Monmouth Co., but we will be heading down to this spot more often. Traveling 25 minutes is so worth it.
