County GOP Taps Polhemus To Run For Another Term As Sheriff

Republican organization picks incumbents Little and Bartlett to run for re-election to freeholder board

One more time.

Eighty-three-year-old longtime Ocean County Sheriff William L. Polhemus wanted to run for another term and the Ocean County Republican Organization granted his wish last week.

"The sheriff to my knowledge has been running a good operation over there," Ocean County Republican Chairman George R. Gilmore said today. "The sheriff has said that he wants to run."

When asked if he thought Polhemus was up to another term, Gilmore replied "I see no impediment to his running and winning."

Polhemus has served as Ocean County Sheriff since 1985. Prior to that, he was police chief of the Seaside Heights Police Department and served 35 years in the department.

He will be challenged by Democrat George "Bob" Armstrong, 68, whose career in law enforcement spans over 40 years, said Ocean County Democratic Club Vice President Marta Harrison. Armstrong lives in Toms River.

"Bob Armstrong is a very vigorous man who will run a very vigorous race and make a great sheriff," Harrison said today.

Armstrong served as a special agent with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations and later as a special agent for the federal Bureau of Investigation, according to his website.

Armstrong then began a second career as state investigator/detective with New Jersey Department of Criminal Justice and later as a special agent/forensic accountant with the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation.

The county GOP organization also nominated incumbent Freeholders John C. Bartlett Jr. and Gerry P. Little for three-year terms. They will be challenged by Democrats George Cevasco of Brick and Bonnie Verga of Beachwood.

The filing deadline to run in the June primary is 4 p.m. April 2.

I’m not speaking for any Party because the “Party” subject is part of a sophisticated political machine. I simple have no required mechanical knowledge to argue for any “Party”. But, George BOB Armstrong’s wisdom of macroeconomic perspective to use Taxpayers’ money wisely in combating the governmental wide financial crisis is deserving a chance to lead the county’s largest law enforcement agency. Joseph Grisanti’s wealth of experience and service in enforcing and following the laws is deserving a chance to continue serving his beloved taxpayers with honesty and integrity to safeguard all taxpayers’ American dream. Pat Barndt’s great social consciousness in her elegantly poised win-win proclamation of that “I’m running because we all deserve better.” for September 11, 2012 Asbury Park Press is awaking New Jersey taxpayers to catch a dream and run with her for better.
Catch your American dream. Let’s run with BOB Armstrong, dance with Joseph Grisanti, and fly high with Pat Barndt in the realm of truth, faith, and integrity.

Ocean Dems certainly have a poor track record of getting people elected. That said, I recall Armstrong's background includes military service, service with the FBI and other law enforcement with high security clearances. It seems on paper he is the best choice this November. I will certainly be voting on experience, not party.

What is also funny is Gilmore had Palhemus hire another long time R as under-sheriff Mr Sommerling whom is also 80 after he retired as a Casino Control Commissioner! Let's be honest no one cares who the Sheriff is. Maybe we should vote on whether we need a Sheriffs office at all or whether we should consolidate local police under the county sheriff and eliminate the local layer. Do I really need to be under the jurisdiction of muni, county, state and federal law enforcement ? Are there county laws that need to be enforced? it seems to me the sheriff's office does jobs other law enforcement agencies can get out of: process-serving, courthouse guards, etc. And maybe the powers-that-be could allow the sheriff officers to guard the roadside construction sites, allowing the regular police officers to do their other duties.

Yeah, I'm angry. If voters on either side would take the time to listen to the candidates (especially in the 2009 election where Polhemus and Armstrong ran against each other) this wouldn't be an issue. I've seen Polhemus a few times around. Do you know he can't push his grocery carriage to the corral at super markets, he leaves it in an empty parking space. Do you know he wanted SSH's officials to rename the Boulevard in SSH after Gilmore's father. That's a county road in a town where he lives. He had no clue the town couldn't rename it.

Ocean County voters are loyal to a fault to the corrupt Gilmore GOP, even after years of tax hikes, appointing unqualified people to posts, wasting some $60 million on an extension of the County Jail, and having people who should have retired years ago like Polhemus among their candidates for office.

In any event, this Paulhimus guy is out way past his bed time and his "choice" for under sherriff Sommerling one of Gilmores hand pick's is also almost 80. I get the feeling this time around it will be different. This Armstrong guy can win if he stays away from the kooks in the local Dem org. I saw a video of Paulhimus at some local org I think in Lakewood. My word, he was babbling. I met Mr. Armstrong and heard his career experience when he ran
the last time for Sheriff of Ocean County. Definitely agree, the Dems keep
running Rosen, which even as a Republican since 1969 was furious that
SHE keeps getting on the ballot. Perhaps the County influence has been
embedded in the County Democrats who are working for themselves/jobs
and not the residents. I for one saw a Political Machine work in both Ocean
and Essex Counties for many years, too bad voters keep voting along party
lines? Check out Colonel Bob Armstrong's website @ www.armstrong4sheriff.com
G. Gilmore has been running things in Ocean and Stafford for way too long ...
as I do respect a party, I am totally disgusted with OC-GOP politics ...
George Gilmore is headed for Stafford and his $Million dollar billings, as Henry

The Judges in Ocean County Court Support Fraud, confidence games, and (Pratiwi) Valent Ramatjansra INC’s International economical criminal gangsters’ business practice in New Jersey to harm licensed good small business owners to advance their political influence.
DON'T Vote Polhemus!!! Joe Vicari and William Polhemus support the swindlers, Chang Nein Ho, Pratiwi Ramatjandra, and Enna Chin’s Fraud in New Jersey to steal from Taxpayers.

Guess Gilmore is trying to get Polhemus into the Guinness Book of Records. The oldest sheriff in NJ. Unfortunately it won't be happening and the people of Ocean County are not going to put an 83 year old man in as Sheriff. It's up to us voters that know the situation to make aware to other voters the facts of the matter. Once the facts are known, die hard Republicans and Independents will be jumping ship for sure.

You cant be serious. First the man is way past his retirement age, second like he can really go out on the streets and do his duties if need be. And finally, sheriff SHOULD NOT be a political job.

When is Mike and Danny going to open their mouths and spill the beans on Gilmore?

What purpose does it serve to have these near dead’s in these positions? There must be others kids 50,60, or even 70 year olds fill these positions?

The most interesting part of this story is who the Democrats chose to run for Freeholder. George Cevasco of Brick is a board member of the BMUA. That is the same agency where Freeholder Jim Lacey is the director. Stay tuned. This should be fun.

Paul Szemanczky, you're being sensationalist and outright ignoring the truth.. or maybe you're just delusional. Either way, your credibility will be out the window once MayDay comes. Actually it's already out the window since you didn't bother to fact check. Have you even looked at 'The 99% Spring' training material? It teaches terribly violent things like closing your bank accounts.
The training is called NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION and in the material itself it specifically states it will not have any information about violent, or even arrestable direct action (which means it doesn't even include scary things that might hurt your family like sit-ins or barricading or occupying).

I'm starting to feel bad that you live in this scary delusional world where mainstream political organizations like MoveOn train armies of Anarchists to destroy America and eat your children.
