Brick Woman Hospitalized After Accident With Police Car
Accident occurred at Jackson and Midvale avenues
An accident involving a township police car that sent a woman to the hospital over the weekend is still under investigation.
The accident occurred Saturday morning just after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Jackson and Midvale avenues, according to Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian.
Bedrosian said a marked township police car being driven by Officer Patrick J. Cook, 42, hit the front left side of a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by Donna M. Bousquet, 56, of Brick, as bother were proceeding through the intersection.
The intersection is unmarked and not controlled by any traffic control device, Bedrosian said.
After the crash, Cook stopped the police car and Bousquet's vehicle came to a final rest partially on the front lawn of 459 Jackson Avenue.
Bousquet was taken to Ocean Medical Center after complaining of pain in her head, neck and chest. Cook was not hurt.
Cook had been in the area investigating a domestic violence call in which a suspect had fled the scene, Bedrosian said.
In addition to Officer Vincent Rosa, Detective George Waldhelm and Sergeant Thomas Sindel, Brick Police EMS responded to the scene. The crash is now being investigated by Bedrosian and Officer Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

If I remember my traffic safety handbook correctly, the woman had the right of of way because the handbook says the car to the right has the right of way, UNLESS, the officer had his lights and sirens on.

Give the officer a ticket and then fire him

Check his cell phone to see if he was on the phone!!!
Sounds like he was distracted... not paying attention... or something like that.

Cook had been in the area investigating a domestic violence call in which a suspect had fled the scene, Bedrosian said.
He might have been distracted because he was looking for the suspect. He also could have been on the phone but that is why there is an investigation.

If she was traveling on Jackson Ave and the officer was on Midvale Ave she would have the right of way.

They will never find the officer to be at fault even if he was. They will come up with some explanation for it.

Thou shalt not speak ill of those who's job it is to protect you 24/7. Why not wait until the facts are known before rushing to judgement.

I don't speak ill. I respect the police for the job they do. I simply do not think in a situation such as this that they would admit fault...they may not put the blame on her, but they will explain it as a no fault type situation....which it very well may have been. Some accidents are truly accidents where nobody particularly is in the wrong.

why should it be diffrent for them. it should be like everyone else" assumed Guilty until proven innocent"
bill

Uh, I believe it to be innocent until proven guilty. Often people are convicted of something in peoples minds before they are even proven to have done it.

NO I ment what I said, Its " assumed Gulity until proven innocent" have you followed any court case, or know anyone that has been nvolved in any? someone can anything about anyone, & the justice system will assume it to be true until proven otherwise.... just a ex. Geg Kelly from the Channel Five news .... A woman made statements about him, at risk of losing his job, rep. his entire life, He was cleared after much media coverage, however, He's Ray Kellys son, & most likly had the means to defend himself, But Many people do not have that means .... The justice system is completly unbalanced...

I agree. It's the same with this Trayvon murder. That Zimmerman guy has already been found guilty in the media before the court case ever starts.

It is a stupid term....brick may have some people who qualify as such but it is a very diverse and large town. You can add "tucky" to the end of any town that has that element in it.

I known this officer. He was one of several that came to my house when my father died. This was one of the most tramatic events in my life. I specifically remember him for the compassion he showed me. Thank you officer Cook for all that you do.

We are so intent on looking to lay blame in the postings, but there has not been any comments showing concern for the woman involved in the accident. Her well being should be the first priority, else is secondary. Cars can be fixed. I do hope she is ok.

The ones who use the term "bricktucky" will go ahead and continue to use it, especially if they know it gets your goat. (is annoying to you)
Maybe this is one case where ignoring something might actually make it go away.

Ironically, I happened to stop at Herbersville deli yesterday and on my way noticed a delapidated house with cjickens in the yard. The pick-up truck parked there had"Bricktucky" written across the windshield.

Local law enforcement in charge of investigating their own MVA ? Should be outsourced to another higher agency. Not that you can trust them either , but your chances are better.
