Brick Walmart Store Set to Expand

Route 88 location will be expanded, reworked to include supermarket

Brick's Walmart store will expand to accommodate an addition of a supermarket.

Walmart stores across the country have been renovated or moved to accommodate the additions of supermarket-like food sections to the stores. In Ocean County, the Lacey Township store includes a supermarket.

Township Planner Mike Fowler said the store has received approvals to expand just under 30,000 square feet and recently completed its permitting process.

The renovation will also include a reworked parking lot that will have two entrances from Jack Martin Boulevard – presumably one close to the traditional store and one close to the supermarket section, Fowler said.

Construction crews will aslo install an 8 foot high sound wall as a buffer for neighbors.

The township council is expected to vote at its meeting Tuesday on whether to approve an application by Walmart asking for a reprieve from the township's noise ordinance during construction.

Council President John Ducey said the waiver to the noise ordinance, if approved, would only cover indoor construction.

"They want to continue to be open, and they feel it would be better to do the work during the night time hours in order not to impede shopping," Ducey said.

Though the project has been approved by the township, construction is "not imminent," said Ducey.

Fowler said the project will be pleasing to the eye.

"I think it's going to look nice when it's all done," he said.

That is because they pay moronic salaries and no benefits. We the taxpayers get to pay for the healthcare that the Chinese store doesn't provide to its workers.

I think they should have constructed a new bldg. It worked for the Neptune Walamart, but even with the larger bldg, I don't think this store will be run any better. I've been to Walmarts across the entire east coast, and Howell and Brick are 2 of the worse. But.. it would be nice to see the end of Pathmark and Kmart:)

So many negative people. I'm convinced some people would never be happy with anything.

Union shops and fair wages would make a lot of us very happy. Not these scabs who paid illegal payola to the Mexicans and abuse American and Chinese workers. Wake up Eddie boy.

If they want people to shop there, they need to clean the place up. I agree with @none- it is a fire hazard. I would rather drive the extra miles and go to Target.

Walmart is a disgusting company. If you wonder why America has lost so many jobs then look no farther than companies like this. It's a store front for China. The company has been found guilty of many sexual discrimination lawsuits in addition to forcing employees to work overtime for no ot pay. The shamful owner of this company has raked in billions in profits yet still screws his employees by cutting benifits - even when the company is in the black. The last time I walked into this walmart a few years ago I found it dirty and depressing. Really have no reason to ever walk in the place again.

That pathmark is a DUMP, they have the worst veggies & fruits in the state. That place needs a major renovation, the people of that area deserve better. If Wal Mart wants to improve the quality of food (and price) I'm all for it. Sorry union boys!!!!
