Brick Splits BOE Vote Between Tickets

Two candidates from each full ticket win, preliminary results show

Brick voters have elected Susan Suter, Frank Pannucci, Jr. and Michael Conti to full, three-year terms on the Board of Education, while Karyn Cusanelli won a one-year unexpired term on the board, preliminary results from the Ocean County Clerk's office showed.

Pannucci and Conti ran on the same ticket. Suter and Cusanelli were both part of a different ticket.

The results released by the clerk's office do not represent any mail-in ballots, however. The closest race was for the one year expired term, which Cusanelli was winning by 437 votes after all of Brick's 57 election districts had turned in their ballots.

"I'm very humbled," said current board member Suter, who was elected to a full, three year term after serving a one year unexpired term. "We're going to continue what we're doing, increase the standards in the classroom and fix our facilities, one project at a time."

"I would truly like to thank anyone who supported out ticket and supported me," said Cusanelli. "I especially appreciate the people who really made the effort to vote, especially under these circumstances."

Pannucci – the highest vote-getter of the night, also thanked his ticket's supporters.

"It's from the heart, we did this with the right intentions," said Pannucci. "We're going to do our best, work with everybody and do what needs to be done, first and foremost."

"We're encouraged and motivated by the town," said Conti.

The final vote tally, including the mail-in and provisional ballots, will not be certified until Nov. 21, officials said.

The BOE is not about 'Tickets', it is about our schools and students. When 'groups' get on the BOE and vote as a block, the students, schools and taxpayers suffer!

I am glad to see that people did not vote for a 'block', however, the results still show the a small 'group' on the BOE will control the votes. This could only repress progress.

Now look new BOE members. Brick taxpayers are sick and tired of paying high taxes so other districts can benefit. We want our money spent here. No more Abbott funding!!! If we didn't have to pay for us and them, we could give our teachers more money. Wouldn't that be just great!

Blame the Senior Communities...
they didn't like that he was spending money...
he was the one driving facility improvement... prioritizing, etc... guess people didn't like the building of the stands at Brick High or new track at Brick Memorial.. ridiculous.

I Agree with you Ed. Walter Campbell was the hardest working BOE member that I have had the pleasure of working with, the years that I have been on the Board. What he has accomplished with the facilities in his to short of time on this Board is nothing less than a Miracle. In my opinion the district has lost someone who will be very hard to replace.

I thought Mr Campbell was doing a great job pushing through improvements and I did vote for him (as well as myself).
He still has 2-months to prepare programs and to submit ideas for infrastructure improvements before January and, I look forward to seeing him speaking from the podium at meetings pushing to keep the BOE on track (as I will as well).

Maybe the way Mr. Campbell got his seat in the first place pissed some people off. I voted for him and Vic Fanelli by the way.

@jd - sad really that investments in PPE are not acceptable to some. We should just let everything fall apart and then really have a problem. Why do people get so upset locally about taxes but nationally its all the rage to raise them?

Can Patch publish a list of the times that Town Council and BOE meetings are shown on BTV (Comcast channel 20) ?

It's hit or miss finding them and I can't find a schedule anywhere...

Congratulations to all the newly elected Board of Education members. They are all very qualified individuals, who I am sure will do a fabulous job helping to create a better School System in Brick. While I am disappointed to have not been elected myself, I wish you all well, and I look forward to assisting the Board in all it's endeavors.
