Brick Police Chief Nils R. Bergquist urged people to stay off township roadways Tuesday.

Crews are continuing to remove trees and downed power lines from roadways, making travel hazardous. Also, many cars are abandoned on roads throughout town.

In addition, Bergquist said multiple rescue operations are still taking place in flooded neighborhoods, and the roads should be open to first responders only.

Travel impedes the ability of first responders to make it through, he said.

A local state of emergency is still in place which bans nonessential vehicles from travel in Brick.
