Brick Police Arrest Two for Robbery, Assault

Tuesday robbery occurred on Harding Drive, suspects were arrested Wednesday night

Brick Police detectives have arrested two township men in the robbery and assault of a Point Pleasant man at a township residence.

Police were called to the 100 block of Harding Drive Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. after a man had called and reported he was assaulted by two men in the garage of a home, which belongs to a relative, Capt. John Rein said.

When police arrived, the victim, 20-year-old Rick Hatch of Point Pleasant Borough, was found with several injuries to his head and face, Rein said.

The two men are alleged to have punched and kicked Hatch in the head until he was unconscious, then stole $60 from his pocket before fleeing in a vehicle, said Rein. When he regained consciousness, he went into the home and a relative called police.

Hatch, who was treated on scene by Brick Volunteer EMS before being brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for the treatment of multiple lacerations and contusions as well as several facial fractures, was able to identify one of the suspects, Rein said.

The investigation that followed led to the arrest of two township men – William Chapman, 19, and Dale Kessler, 22, both of Sawmill Road – late Wednesday night.

Both were charged with one count each of robbery and aggravated assault. Ocean County Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels set bail on both at $200,000.

Both were transported to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.

Brick Police Detectives Erik Olsen and Thomas Cooney made the arrests, Rein said.

The investigation is ongoing, Rein said. Those with information are asked to call Olsen at 732-262-1120.

Sawmill Road - I am so sick on tired of hearing about my community that has turned into a mess. When are these landlords going to stop renting to these trouble makers?

The Hasidim from Lakewood are buying foreclosure properties all over Brick. They follow a similar pattern. Run the property into the ground, attract the kind of dirt bags accused in this story to live there, and there you have it: East Lakewood. aka Brick.

I agree with you, I live in maple leaf myself. The only way to correct the problem is to have stricter renting laws, Backround checks, drug screenings etc. The association we have now is doing a great job on getting rid of the bad news in here but unfourntialy it is going to take more time to get rid of them all.

Just put razor ribbon and barbed wire around Sawmill already. 90 percent of our towns violent criminals reside there.

It’s too late…. You can’t fix Sawmill now…..you can thank all of your liberal friends for putting liberal politicians in power in this country… You can not discriminate when renting and we are subsidizing this housing unit through welfare and section 8 housing….you reap what you sow

Welfare and section 8 needs to do drugscreenings. I feel that if people on section 8 do drugs then they need to loose all there benifits. If they have kids then dyfes should step in. It saddens me to see some of these people on drugs and have children. The children suffer the most and lead by example.

The problem is our police are understaffed; they know it,and these criminals know it. The police are just as frustrated as we are as a town. Yes, every town has a drug problem, but with the abuse of prescription drugs, it is now worse than ever. We have cameras here at Maple Leaf. They are working, to an extent. Only things is , the criminals are still here and the landlords who rent to them DON'T CARE !

Brick PD..turn off the patrol car cameras, send the I.A.D. on vacation and clean house. make life unbearable for these people. ....oh wait...that would mean you care about the community.

If the Hasidim really do own these properties, and then rent them out to low life, this should be looked into by the township. A person or entity cannot run down an area of a town, and cause disturbance of the peace and along with it police energy and time. I heard when the Hasidim want to take over an area, they buy a property, put low life in it, to cause the police to constantly be called, the neighbors get scared, property value drops and everyone sells to the Hasidims, which is exactly what they planned all along. Guess the way to find out is look at tax records and see exactly who owns some of the property at Sawmill. This should be interesting.
