Why do they keep this parade so QUITE !!! All the fire trucks & NO SIRENS to excite the kids Why is this ????The least they can do is ring the bells on the trucks,
Does anyone know who pays this Miss Liberty lady ??? I know she gets a fee to appear is that paid by the city ?? If so How much ???

It is a valid safety issue.No one wants to do damage to a spectators hearing.Due to the proximity of the children to the truck sirens this is a genuine concern. I'm looking forward to the parade.It is a wonderful tribute to all the men and women that have served our country and a chance to thank them for serving us in the U.S. military.

Sometimes it scares little kids.

Yes I forgot we are raising another generation of Wimpy kids BYW if the sirens are turned on & off intermittenly they will be fun & still no louder than any of the bands playing in fact the drums & horns are louder than an intermittanly used siren, I quess the the bells on the front would also scare the delicate flowers parents are raising these days. My Father, & Grandfather, both served for this country in 1 in both world wars, One of the things about the Mem Day Parade's I attended with them as a kid was the joy the 3 of us had when the "Big Truks would come by with the all the bells whistles & sirens going, they always told me that was so their fallin brothers would hear them & know how proud we where of them & considered it a great honor to be remembered. Sure A FEW kids got scared the first time they heard them but once it was explained to them they too enjoyed them. I guess kids wher less fragile then then noe or Parents just don't want to explain things that may upset ther little flowers. Still why not just ring the bells ?? to Honor are vets???

Maybe we should turn off the flashing lights too...just in case someone might get scared or trigger a seizure

I think the reason for no sirens is because this is a parade to honor those that died to keep us free.I think it is out of respect.Fourth of july parades are loud because they are a celebration.Memorial day is a day to remember those that paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Memorial Day is NOT about parades and sirens. It is a day for everyone to honor the brave men and women who made the supreme sacrifice and gave their lives for you and our beautiful country!! Why don't all of you get some flowers, visit a military cemetery and thank every vet you know for their service!!!

Memorial Day is meant to be a solemn day to honor people who have died. It is not about bbqs and fireworks. People tend to lump this holiday in with July 4, but it is a very different holiday.

If that screwball " Miss Liberty " shows up and crashes the parade again this year, the police should arrest her. That "lady" is a certified nutjob.

Charlene ..Yes its in memory of all that have served our country Agreed ..Myself and my son are Vets..and we are glad to be able to be together with family and friends on every holiday so why not in honor and respect in memory of all who have served.Parades are for happy times and to honor all that have served there country.I thank God that we can and for pray for all that can't ..god bless America...

They have taken away the pledge of allegiance in our schools whats next no more god bless America at sport events..Damn wave that flag be proud we are losing our rights slowly because people complain its offensive ,its noisy ,come on now ...are you kidding me ..Its our rights as an American to be proud of all who have served ,the Flag and our country..If it bother you that people enjoy and respect honoring our soldiers in a way that you disapprove ..too bad ..Land of the free !!!

I think the original issue here was about why they don't blare sirens at the parade. The reason for that is because this is Memorial Day. Have you ever been to a memorial of someone's passing where sirens are blaring and people are cheering? Sure, we all should be waving our flags and showing our pride, but this day is to show respect and to reflect upon the countless lives that have been lost so that we can live the way we do....and I think the people who run the parade are trying to be respectful of that sentiment.

So the argument AGAINST sirens is that Memorial Day is a solemn occasion?
Why are there marching bands playing upbeat music then?
Why is the WRAT van there blaring rock through loudspeakers?
Yes, it is a memorial. But it IS a parade. And I've NEVER seen a solemn Memorial Day parade.

Can someone please tell me the start time of the parade? I'm in NH, my mother in law is in NJ with no internet, caring for her mother in the hospital. She's trying to time the arrival of family to avoid the parade and route. Can't find it anywhere! Please help.

I wonder why they continue to use the foodtown property (they keep saying its sold) when the parade is really down Chambers Bridge Road to Town Hall. I never understood how the township was allowed to shut down a major highway as they do every year. I find it to be a major safety issue as well as an inconvience.

Speaking for another FD, we, the FD, choose to not use sirens/horns during the parade. We choose this to honor and respect servicemen. If you are not happy about how your FD chooses to show it's honor and respect, you are free to join the FD and change it. I am sure they will welcome new members.

If you like loud parades and some cool floats and fun people. Go to some of the small town parades like Ocean Gate, Pinebeach, Beachwood, I've been lucky to be invited to be in some of those parades by a fire company my friend belongs to down there. The Pine Beach one is small, loud, and features kids in mini cars that I believe they make and decorate themselves. Never saw that before, it was so cute and the kids were having a blast. Ocean Gates is again small, but the whole town shows up along with people from other towns I had a blast working the fire trucks air horn and siren during it, I really like that one. For some, Memorial Day is somber and quiet, for others it's a celebration of not only those that have given, but those that are out there now and a loud parade to me shows support of those serving now. For those retailers Memorial Day is just another sale day, THAT makes me want to PUKE! Won't catch me at any Memorial Day sale, I don't care how cheap they make the products, you will not find me at a Memorial Day Sale! It's disrespectful!

Miss Liberty just shows up she is NOT PAID. Considering the gates are closed before she can even get into the driveway of the town all, I HIGHLY doubt she is ASKED to come.

And I don't know where you all sit, but next year sit closer to town hall & you'll hear all the sirens!
