Brick Man, 19, Arrested for Burglarizing Neighbors' Homes
Patrick M. Ireland facing burglary charges
A township man has been arrested for burglarizing a home in his own neighborhood, police said Friday, with additional burglary charges pending.
Patrick M. Ireland, 19, of Tanager Way in the township's Herbertsville section, is suspected of burglarizing multiple homes on nearby streets, according to Capt. John Rein.
It all started Wednesday at 11:15 a.m., when residents on Merrimac Drive called police after they observed a suspicious male in the area of several neighbors' homes, Rein said. While police checked area, an off-duty officer and a resident saw a man, later determined to be Ireland, exit a home and flee on foot. After a being chased through several yards, Ireland was apprehended by Ptl. Mark Storch, Rein said.
During the chase, Ireland was observed throwing items to the ground. Those items were recovered and determined to be stolen jewelry from several homes in the area.
Ireland was charged with one count each of burglary, theft and criminal mischief and was released on his own recognizance, however he is suspected of committing additional daytime burglaries in the area. Detective Thomas Cooney is conducting the investigation and additional charges are pending the outcome of that investigation, Rein said.
Anyone with information with respect to Ireland or burglaries in the area, which is located off Thiele Road, is asked to contact Cooney at 732-262-1120.
A photo of Ireland was not available.

Very sad. This boy was always such a smart student in school. Got mixed up with the wrong group of kids and NO PARENTAL SUPPORT at home. Such a shame that this happened to him.

Its a shame that the public defender, you knw the FREE lawyer that we all pay for. and the the Judge, both were in agreement to have patrick do 30 days in county for the last robbery,(not 30 straight) weekend days only do to the fact that he wouldnt survive in county population. WAY TO GO JUSTICE SYSTEM, hey judge how does it feel to get spit and s/it on?here is another thought, if he was just convicted and sentenced to a crime NOT EVEN A WEEK AGO, why would they let him go on his own recognizance, why not keep him locked up and set bail, OH i forgot! (he wouldnt survive)

these kids are all hooked on pills, selling stolen gold jewelry to buy roxy, oxy perco, xanax, etc. families need to get involved if they already are not, they are lost souls that just need continued help. i used to talk with patrick when he was a kid in our neighborhood, he was such a wonderful kid, smart, funny. etc. he just needs some serious, extensive help, i wish him well, it is never too late to fix a life.

I don't care how good a kid he was, he is a problem now. This jewelry stolen could be items and keepsakes that are irreplaceable. We must keep our windows and doors locked at all times in Brick and have security systems that are monitored. The values of our houses are decreasing as we live in a crime filled area. I think being hooked on pills is just a sorry excuse. Jail time at least would give us some safe time while they are locked up. What if he encountered someone in the home? Are you sure her would not harm someone. How far are we going to let this go? I bet the cops and courts are tired of seeing this over and over again.

Actually, Steph - without all of these types of drug-related crimes, most of the cops and court staff would be out of a job so I doubt they're anything but ecstatic when the system works exactly how it's designed to in order to perpetuate itself and make it profitable. Believe me - they are WELL AWARE that people like him, when released or put on probation, will re-offend. They count on it.
As far as the kid is concerned - if he's an addict, that's a shame. But, unfortunately, it doesn't absolve him from what he does wrong in order to maintain that addiction. And, unfortunately, it's statistically unlikely that being processed through the system, whether it be jail or rehab, is going to do anything but make him worse in the long run. Hopefully the kid will wise-up himself and take a look at his situation and decide to make changes.
Best wishes to him and his family for the best outcome.

this kid didn't get involved with the wrong group of people, he was the wrong group of people and brought everyone down with him in. his father does absolutely everything for him, and hes crapped on in the end from all of his sons wrong decisions.. you think the kid would have learned about a year and a half ago when he was a passenger in fatal accident. (all over drugs 50$worth) they took a innocent young mans life, and he still continues to do the wrong thing. i have no sympathy for this young man what so ever. he deserves what he gets, every second of it. and hopefully justice will be served this time. he was never a good kid end of story. take it from someone who grew up with him. GOOD DAY ALL!

Looks like he's going to be arrested again. He went to a neighbors house to rake leaves the day before yesterday for money then her house was broken into the next day. He didn't get in because another neighbor called police.

“Baby Pat was just carless & got himself caught” This is what the consensus is among his peers. This is happening all over. Kids coming from middle income families are steeling to support an expensive habit. These cases are not reported & kids are steeling right from their own homes. This is stemming from many parents to preoccupied with their own lives to uphold family values. Parents afraid of discipline. When I was growing up things never got this far. Parents watched out for their kids & their friends kids. If they were doing something wrong. The parents communicated with one another & that kid was disciplined. I can’t help but think this kid’s life is ruined because no one was parenting him.
