Former Brick Township Board of Education president Kim V. Terebush has withdrawn from this year's school board race.
Coupled with the decision of board member Leonard Cuppari not to seek re-election, the withdrawl marks the end of an alignment of board members that took a loss in last year's election cycle.
Terebush did not return a call from Brick Patch seeking comment on her reasoning for withdrawing from the race. She withdrew Sept. 14, records show.
With the departure of Terebush, this year's race will be divided between two defined tickets and several other candidates.
The ticket of Walter F. Campbell, Susan Suter, Karyn Cusanelli and Lois Turner are running under the "Right Direction for Brick" banner.
Frank Pannucci, Jr., Michael R. Conti, Richard Lau and Brenda Calderone are running as a ticket as well.
Victor Fanelli, David J. Fischer and John Barton are individually running for seats on the board.
Three full, three year terms are up for grabs, as well as one, one year unexpired term.
The school board election will be held Nov. 6, the same day as the general election.

Isn't Pannucci Jr, the guy that told the mayor he was there for him, at a council meeting sometime back, discussing the Mayors multiple jobs ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he also the chairman of the Brick Republican Party and "surprising" is employed by the BTMUA ? Seems the cycle just continues.

Its funny, you are not allowed to declare a party affiliation when running for the BOE, yet they are always back by D and R.
To hell with politics, it is time to do something for the kids for a change. Time to consolidate and get rid of the patronage jobs in the admin, and the teachers who arent doing a good job.

BW- What political party is supporting Suter, Campbell, Turner and Cusanelli. Answer no political party is supporting this team as they are totally Independent when it comes to running for the BOE. Can the same be said for Pannucci, Jr. Conti, Richard Lau and Calderone ? I don't think so as the persons running their campaigns are two former Republican Council members. In my opinion BOE needs to be truly independent. The Republican Party lost the Council Majority and now it seem they want to take over the BOE. I have seen this happen in the past with both political parties taking over a BOE with negative results for the students and tax payers. I think the present Board is doing a good job of improving the curriculum and facilities with out increasing the taxes. The present BOE received 1.3 million dollars from the state and gave it back to the tax payers. They are spending about 14-15 million dollars in facilities repairs with out going out for a referendum or increasing your taxes and they will continue the repair of our facilities next year. Working with the new Superintendent they will be bringing in new education programs that will improve the education your children will receive. The right time, for the right reasons reelect Suter, Campbell, and elect Turner and Cusanelli.

don't know where you got those facts.... but you are incorrect...
there was NO tax increase which was the WRONG thing to do.... they should have gone with a 2% and use the money for capital projects.
As far as capital projects, it is NOT 14-15 million... the only big things they have done are the bleachers and science labs... that is about 3.5 million in 2012.
Brick needs to be spending at least $5million/yr for upgrades.... and i'm not talking maintenance (roof repair, etc)

Pannucci is no longer the Chairman of the GOP. He gave it up over the Summer and secondly, that ticket is a mix of a lot of different people, look up their voter registrations, they are not an R ticket regardless of how anyone tries to spin it. They are just good people regardless of what the so called bloggers on this site say. I don't think anyone running regardless of who they are running with are bad people. I just wish pele would stop throwing mud on this site, it's getting old.

Perhaps Brick Patch could do an unbiased article on each canidate so we don't have to decide by campaign posters and what line on the ballot they fall under.

Glenn -- We'll have our usual Candidate Profile articles as we've done in the past. It's a basic description of each candidate followed by about 3-4 questions on issues affecting the district. Each candidate gets the same few questions, no comments are allowed on the articles.
Coincidentally, the letters are being mailed today to each candidate.

I wish the media (especially newspapers) would do one thing and one thing only and for all people running for public office, and that is publish the records of the incumbents, the article should just be a picture and what they voted for or against and all that info coming from public record and not what they personally claim. Just that information can tell you pretty much what that person stands for and if they should be rehired or fired.

I think the issue with an article like that is, first off, the fact that BOE members can cast hundreds of votes in just one meeting. So cherry picking certain votes and using them as examples could be seen as being subject to ulterior motives or biases. Secondly, you could have a situation where a board member votes in favor of, say, introducing a budget, but he or she may not agree with every last item in that budget despite their overall support.
So my preference has always been to ask questions in these surveys that can give a reader a sense of where a candidate stands on a few key issues. That's not to say voting records are NOT important. They are. But they don't always tell the whole story, especially given the rather complicated background of the processes surrounding personnel, budgetary and curriculum decisions.

Deluca running the ticket that held fundraiser at John Catalano house. Lau wife repub county committee rep and BTMUA employee. Pannucci BTMUA director and R muni chair. check all the GOP political appointments the past few years. nonpartisan school election? ha! I hear they are spending major $ to get majority. Who is contributing? hmmmmmm? do these people even have kids in the schools? Hold on to your wallets if these politicians get in!!!!!!!!!

Of a $137 million budget, nealry $30 million goes towards employee benefits. The local school tax is $95 million. This means a 10% increase in benefits requires $3 million in new taxes. This is more than the 2% mandated cap on the $95 million and doesn't include any money for pay raises.
My question for anyone running is how are you going to stay within the cap?

One appears to need the aid of a Philadelphia lawyer to follow the local politics. The problem is the rest of us have jobs or in this economy - job searches and cannot devote our lives to following the shenanigans that occur. We rely on communication like The Patch to inform us. I like Joey Wools idea of a report card. A lot of the hundreds of votes that take place are routine hirings - delegation of retirements and pensions. Take those away and grade the meat and potato issues of what was actually expedited for the students. Evaluate them. Would it be a hundred percent fair? Maybe not - but the teachers are subject to annual evaluations that may or may not be fair. Why should these politicos be any different?

JD You mention that the only large projects are the bleachers and science labs. How about new girls and boys locker rooms at BHS and BMHS, or New track and new Gym seats and total replacement of the Gym Floor at BMHS. These are major cost items. Also replaced all exterior doors and replace Many Windows at Old Brick. NO JD the amount spent is nearer 14-15 million, which includes millions from the state. It is my understanding that this present BOE plans on spending about the 5 million or more on additional projects this coming year. By the way every school in the district had projects that are being addressed this year. You and I disagree on giving the tax payers the 1.3 million back, which is what the state suggested the BOE due with the dollars they returned to Brick. I think this BoE did the right thing, you don't, we disagree. The BOE made that vote, we didn't.
