The APP has been a rag for a long time....since Gannett took over. Now it's value is comparable to The Enquirer, The Star and other rags that report about 3 headed babies and I was impregnanted by an alien creature. Since Hollis Towns took the reins it got even worst. I'm seeing more reliable and honest news reporting on The Patch.

You're right, Mr. Marlboro. Those big conglomerates ruin everything they touch. I read the Press for 30 years; had to quit when it decided to go ultra-liberal.

Do not forget they publish USA Today too. They also own a lot of ABC, NBC, & CBS affiliate stations around the country.
I stopped buying the Asbury Park Press years ago when I was unable to get any news on the rare "subway series" that Autumn. In my paper they omitted details for The World Series from their sport section because I was not in that precise area of the Gannet distributorship allowed to receive it(without paying more money, of course!). The wanted me to purchase a second paper just to read that story alone. The local town news can be gotten on line now, making them obsolete.

So according to your reasoning, we have the conservatives to blame for supporting the liberal press. How about both sides are showing a preference for quicker access without having to bring in a rain soaked lump to put in the oven.

That doesn't seem fair to the Patch. I have had a couple of instances where I complained and I must say the editor of the Berkeley Patch is straight shooting and just trying very hard to cover this complex story of a storm called Sandy. She tells you up front what her political leanings are and yet most of us read the stories and jump to the comments which are written by folks who hold all sorts of views.

To me, the Patch is a breath of fresh air. The Editor is if anything more than willing to let all sorts of opinions fly around and it's a shame if we who write those comments don't understand that more than politics are involved in this very complex mess we are in. Yes, there certainly could be streamlining of the administration of the programs and towns and committees and it would help if more towns supplied the Patch with in depth information about just what the rules of these many games are.

But there is a time for specific finger pointing if you know someone is not doing his or her job but this storm was neither a gift from the democrats or the republicans and when the chips are down it is going to be up to New Jerseyans to pitch in and help any and everyone in need. The more we can do for our communities, the less we will need government help.

And Governments on all levels are flat out broke. So when you finish typing here, head for a troubled spot and donate and hour or so of your time to helping things get better. We will all be better off for it.

Exactly, it was actually listed as "Breaking News" last night and when I asked why this was considered breaking news, my comment was deleted.

Everything is breaking news on Patch. They get a little crazy around here with that tag line. Kind of annoying.

I disagree with that. Patch seems to let all sorts of ideas through and only censors things most of us would agree are not fit for print. The Patch articles seem to be straight forward and are the product of journalism: yes, they can make mistakes but they are willing to correct them and they invite community participation via the comments section which is a whole lot larger than the space devoted to the articles printed which tend to be objective.

HuffPo also tends to let ideas float from folks from left to right but that can't be said for say The New York Times which seems to cherry pick responses from readers so that they primarily fall in line with that paper's editorial outlook. The Patch isn't doing that. Thank God.

It's time to be grateful for the few things that are working and it would help if people would think through what they are writing and not just sling mud. We have enough of that to clean up!

The Asbury Park Press did little to keep my readership. I commented on the fact that they lost my custom, & why. Closing their offices indicates they have a financial difficulty. My comment is appropriately linked to the topic under discussion. Your rant, however, is not. Please feel free to exit, if we bother you as your name indicates.

It's not just the Daily Mail. Newspapers from Canada to Europe and yes, Russia, are publishing articles that we need to read. The Drudge report lists so many world newspapers in its left hand column that it makes it easy to get news from other nations but with the understanding that those papers, just like ours, tend to have their own agendas. US papers are awful when it comes to covering stories that are taking place in other countries which in fact will affect us as well.

Give Drudge's left hand column a try because it's quick and certainly helps me try to understand things from other nations' points of view. And there are liberals and conservatives in their streams of journalism but at least they try to cover more than their own backyards.

Hey I'm one of those people! Your right! Maybe I will cancel my subscription too. Then when all of us "nasties" cancel, the APP can move into a storage unit!
