Jersey Shore Animal Shelter in Brick has been long known as a "No Kill Shelter", that is not true. Attached is a copy of a letter I sent to Ms. Patricia Wallace at the shelter regarding euthanisia of animals. I have supported this shelter for many years with financial and material donations. That is over.
Dear Ms. Wallace,
I have to take this moment to express my disappointment with your organizations policy regarding euthanasia. I surrendered a dog to your care due to my health issues; he was a healthy, well, vet attended dog that was not vicious or aggressive when I surrendered him to your care. I learned today that your organization euthanized him.
It has always been my understanding that you were a “No Kill Shelter”; it appears that I was sadly mistaken.
I have long been a supporter of JSAC and your thrift shop; that support ended today.
Sincerely,
Thomas Cular

There are very few no kill shelters, healthy animals are put down every day, it is a sad truth. I would never surrender an animal to a local shelter unless it were a rescue.

That place is a joke. They would rather let a dog rot in a "cell" than send it home with a loving family, that doesn't meet their criteria. I found the condescending attitude of the people in charge to be extremely insulting.

It took a bit of thought and editing before I sent their Director? a letter. I surely don't expect a response to my letter. I did post my feelings about them on Facebook. I pray that no one makes the same mistake I made and trust JSAC with their animals.

@Tom Cular
I'm so sorry to read your story and the murder of your beloved dog. I have never in my life ever ran into such a bunch of fanatic nut-jobs who believe their doing such a wonderful thing whereinfact they are doing a disservice to the animals and the people....Then they LIE about it.

I volunteered there until the system didn't appear to care much about the pets getting attention, the volunteers working with them or even to let us know if an animal had an illness we could potentially bring to our own pets. They'd rather socialize than pet cats and such. Its a sad state of affairs there. They lost my support.

I'm sorry to read Mr. Cular's story. I can say they didn't do that as I was aware of when there. Despite this sad story, if you can adopt a pet from there then its one you can save. Thank you.

I am Tom Cular's next door neighbor of many years. I also worked at JSAC about 12 years ago. I was nauseated when Tom told me they euthanized Ebby. I remember when he and his late wife adopted him from JSAC as a puppy! This dog had not one, single mean bone in his body....EVER!! Vetted regularly, great home with great people! REAL "animal-people"! I am crushed beyond belief to hear this. Someone made a terrible, terrible decision in euthanizing that big, lovable mush of a pooch. In the past, I'd known some dogs to be there for very lengthy periods of time so I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Perhaps it's JSAC's way of "making room" for some of the "rescues" they take in from other states and towns? Was he too large, therefore not very adoptable? Was his middle-age a factor? One of JSAC's employees has owned Ebby's BROTHER from "puppy-hood", but even THAT was not enough to cut him a break! I am disappointed and confused, but the ONE thing I'm SURE of is the fact that I am "DONE" with JSAC! I knew they were NOT a "no-kill" facility, and realize some situations warrant euthanasia. I don't believe THIS was one of those situations. I know when you surrender your animal, it then becomes the "property" of JSAC and they can basically do what they want with it. In reality, we are all just "venting" here because JSAC just does whatever they want anyway. Seems like they're putting more animals down these days, even though they have so much more space!

Evil Evil Evil People. Poor Fuzzy has been in his 8x10 prison cell there for over a year. Nobody was good enough, hundreds of applications on this poor dog. So when will these evil pople decide to murder Fuzzy. His adoption fee is now half price. I guess after the clearance sale, then comes DEATH.
DON'T SUPPORT THIS PLACE.

I adopted 2 cats from this shelter and had no problem three years ago. I cannot believe this shelter has changed in 3 years There has to be another side to this story I wish the shelter would defend themselves. They have to have had good reasons?

I too have worked there and let me tell you, they will put an animal down if they simply feel like it. There doesn't need to be a rhyme or reason for it. Also, they encourage people to trap cats and bring in to be euthanized. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Could be a neighbor's pet, they don't care. It's a slaughterhouse over there.

Thank goodness we have forums like this now....JSAC is a SCAM!!! their being "selective " is at an unreasonable point....I can only hope they will be outed one day. They keep exsisting because they provide a service that no one else wants to, also if they create a "need" they continue to get funds. There is no impetus to adopt out animals.DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Yes, I agree with a lot of the comments about Jersey Shore animal Center. In the last few years the directors have an attitude that shows they aren't a good fit for the job,and it's really apparent. They are in the wrong field .Stopped donating a few years ago to this shelter with great regret. Told my local vet in brick about it to.
