Brick Memorial Marching Mustangs

Failure Is Not An Option……..

Inspired by the iconic movie line, the Marching Mustangs finished up the 2012 season by demonstrating the themes highlighted in its Apollo XIII production. The students, parents and staff channeled NASA’s example of teamwork to assure the band performed at TOB’s Atlantic Coast Championships and at USBAND’s National Championships.
Less than a week after the destruction brought by super-storm Sandy, the band traveled to Hersey, PA to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championships. Overcoming the loss of scheduled practices, power outages, floods, downed trees and wires and cancellation of school and school based transportation, the band achieved its fifth consecutive gold medal finalist level placing third and winning the hearts of the crowd with one of the loudest ovations of the day.
Less than a week later, many Brick households still without power, the Marching Mustang Family once again came together to give the students the opportunity to perform at Metlife Stadium. Competing early in the line-up, the band set the bar for excellence that held throughout the day earning them a third place finish and winning the caption for best overall effect.
In hindsight, NASA’s example of ingenuity and teamwork exemplified in the Apollo XIII mission served as an ironic backdrop to the events surrounding the 2012 season. When presented with challenging and seemingly insurmountable obstacles, the entire band family demonstrated how team commitment, a little ingenuity, and a lot of hard work come together to define a true championship season.
